Highworth, Wiltshire, busy little market town
You've found it! The only fotopic site dedicated to the market town of Highworth and its surrounding area. The photographs used to be part of my railway oriented site, but I felt that Highworth and district deserved a gallery all to itself. I hope to reflect the town as it is now, with a guided tour of the shops and facilities and pubs of course, and to add collections featuring local events, interesting happenings and local weather, particularly flooding it seems these days. Highworth is a small market town situated in North Wiltshire very close to the Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire borders, near neighbours include Faringdon, Lechlade, Cirencester and Swindon. Sir John Betjeman liked the place very much describing it as one of the best preserved market towns in all England, and it still maintains an unspoilt atmosphere thanks to the preservation of its historic centre. Its still one of those places where you meet people who have lived here all their lives, and most people once they have moved here seldom feel the need to emigrate to such far off places as Swindon. I hope you enjoy the photographs, I'm adding them all the time, and trying to make the site look more professional where I can, I've added some links to other Highworth based websites as well. Enjoy, I'll be having a pint in the Fox or the Halfpenny Tap in Lechlade! I've added some more phots on 8/9/09 after finally working out how to download pictures from my cameraphone! I've put a collection of photographs of Faringdon in now, so I've pretty much run out of small local towns to add now!
About Me
I moved to Highworth in March 2007, I've always liked the place and it seemed a logical move to leave that crossroads of Asian, African and Eastern European culture that is Swindon for somewhere a little quieter. I hope you like my website, if you have any suggestions to improve it or general comments please let me know either by email or in person at the Cellar Bar, all criticisms must be included with a pint! Cheers.

Whats going on?!
Highworth Apple Day takes place on Saturday 10th October to celebrate this once great local industry. I beleive that everyone is being encouraged to bring their unwanted apples to the Market square from 1100 and they will be turned into apple juice by cider presses positioned on the podium.
Once fermented at a later date the cider will be available for tasting etc, other attractions are also promised on the day. For more details see Shaun Vockins c/o the Fox.

Following the success of the late bank holiday beer festival, the Crown at Lechlade will be holding a Winter Ales Fest on Sat/Sun 5th/6th December, hearty Winter food is also promised. 12 beers will be on including a new brew from the Halfpenny Brewery.
